Benton Harbor HOPE VI Program
Whirlpool Corporation provides funding for Cornerstone Alliance, an economic development organization in Benton Harbor, Michigan A portion of the $1 million provided annually goes toward the state and federally funded HOPE VI project.
Under the HOPE VI program, more than $25 million of public money is being used to demolish all public housing in the Benton Harbor community and replace it with approximately 385 single family homes and townhouses. One of the requirements of HOPE VI is that public and private investment in social and life skill improvements equal the investment in the new housing. A collaboration of more 20 not-for-profit agencies are enlisting all available services within the community toward the 385 families who will receive the housing, thus helping to build and improve the Benton Harbor neighborhoods.
